Search engine optimization is the process of creating web pages that rank well in natural search engine results.

For instance, if you search for the key phrase "catalog software" (try it) in Google, LetMeShop.com (one of our LetMeShop catalog sites) is in the top ten listings in the natural search results (not counting the "sponsored links"). Sponsored links pay to have the top two or three positions. For the term "ecommerce catalog" this is generally between two and four dollars per click. In MSN the same search (try it) returns LetMeShop.com in the top 10 positions below the sponsored listings.

While pay-per-click can get you to the top of search engines the cost can be overwhelming. Our LetMeShop.com site gets upwards of five hundred clicks a month off of the "catalog software" key phrase. If we had to use pay-per-click we would have to spend over a thousand dollars per month. In addition, it is estimated that less than 50% of search engine users ever click on those sponsored listings.

The more top positions you have for your key phrases the better off you are.

• Our process is based on two goals. 
  • First, we want the optimized page to rank well with search engines.
  •  Second, we want the pages to entice visitors to use your site. There is little use in getting a user to your site that immediately clicks the "back" button. We work to make sure each optimized page also adds to the viability of your site.
• There is no guarantee that any optimization anyone does will put you into the top search results for any specific keyword on any specific search engine. There is also no guarantee that, if we do land a top position, it will last. Search engines change their criteria for search results on a regular basis.
• Our process creates REAL content that is optimized for both visitors and search engines. We use no cloaking or spamming techniques because, if discovered by the search engine, can mean complete removal from the search engine index.
• Creating a high ranking on any given key phrase is completely dependent upon the competition for that key phrase. The more popular the key phrase the harder it is to get top position.
• Optimization is a long term commitment. Generally the addition of content to your site will not be indexed by the major search engines for six to ten weeks. After it is indexed it may take another three months to reach the top of it's potential placement.

It is sometimes possible to optimize your existing pages if the structure of the page design allows reasonable optimization techniques. Sites heavy in JavaScript and Flash are generally better left alone except for the addition of text links to the new pages.
